Weight Loss Calculator — Projected Date & Path

This projector compares what you plan to eat with what you burn. The gap, divided into the 7,700 kcal stored in each kilogram, gives the timeline — a steady 550 kcal daily gap clears 5 kg in about 10 weeks. Enter your own intake and the dates move with it.

How it works

The deficit calculator elsewhere on this site starts from a deficit you choose; this projector starts one step earlier, from the intake you actually plan to eat, and works out the deficit itself by first estimating your maintenance burn. That makes it the more practical of the two for planning: most people think in meals ('about 2,000 a day'), not in deficits.

Because the maintenance figure comes from your own statistics, the comparison rows are the instructive part. Two hundred kilocalories — one snack, one generous pour of cooking oil, one soft drink — typically moves the goal date by weeks across a multi-month loss. The projector makes a persuasive case that the smallest sustainable change, repeated, is the entire game.

Hold the output loosely. The model is a straight line drawn through a process that water retention, adaptation and life all bend. Weigh yourself several times a week, judge by the weekly average, and if the trend runs slower than projected for three weeks, the maintenance estimate was optimistic — trim the intake slightly and let your own data take over the forecasting.

The method

TDEE from Mifflin-St Jeor × activity factor. Daily gap = TDEE − planned intake. Days = (current − goal) × 7,700 ÷ gap. No-loss case reported honestly when intake meets or exceeds maintenance.

Educational only — not medical advice. This calculator gives general information worked out from the figures you enter and the published formulas described on this page. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for professional medical care. Bodies vary, formulas are population averages, and your own circumstances matter — for decisions about your health, talk to your doctor or another qualified professional.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the calorie deficit calculator?

That one takes a deficit as given. This one derives the deficit from your statistics and a planned intake, which suits people planning meals rather than deficits. Both use the same 7,700 kcal/kg engine underneath.

Why does the projection assume my maintenance never changes?

Simplicity and honesty about it: the note on your result flags the drift. A shrinking body burns less — plan to recalculate at each 5 kg lost and the dates stay honest.

What intake should I enter?

What you will genuinely average, weekends included — not your best day. A realistic 2,100 entered honestly outperforms a fantasy 1,600 in every way that matters.
